Get excited! There is a new Sculpt Nouveau patina now available.
Midnight Black is a traditional patina for use with steel, but not stainless, zinc/galvanized, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper and iron.
The patina will be a cold application and must be clear coated after the piece is rinsed with water and then dried to prevent rusting.
When applied full strength to aluminum, one coat will produce a grey/black finish. Additional coats will create a lovely solid black color that will not rub off easily.
One coat on steel at full strength will create a bluish/black oil slick finish. Extra coats are needed to darken the patina.
A bronze/brown finish will be achieved when applied full strength to zinc/galvanized material. Applying more coats will result in more of a warm brown color with great adhesion.
When applying to brass/bronze or copper it is recommended that the patina be diluted with distilled water with a 1:1 ratio. The first coat creates a beautiful brown. Subsequent coats will darken the patina to a rich antique black.
Note from the vendor:
Per Ryan at Sculpt Nouveau, “Black Magic is best for blackening steel while Midnight Black is best for blackening aluminum and achieving a dark brown to black on bronze, brass and copper.
Black Magic will give a weathered/patchy black on aluminum and it will blacken bronze, brass, and copper but the Midnight is better, in my opinion.
Midnight Black will give a dark blueish black on steel.”
